Events & Happenings

Our thanks to members of Colleen's School of Celtic Dance (and Studio A Dance Company) who performed at the 2020 Robert Burns Dinner. The SAS recently pledged to support Scottish dance instruction with a donation.  If you're interested in lessons, contact Studio A, 3860 Elmore Ave, Ste. A, Davenport (studioadance @ gmail or 563-323-0484.)

Scottish dancers burns 2020

In September 2019, the Scottish American Society donated $500 to the Irish Football Club of the Quad Cities, to assist them in their efforts to rebuild the club, and offer youth programs. Members were present at the September 14 game to announce the donation, and pipe in the players. Thanks to Henry Marquardt, Darren Lowe, and Derek Grant (piper) for representing the SASQC so well!

The Scottish American Society donated a $500 check earlier in 2019 to the Salvation Army of the Quad Cities to support flood relief efforts for our beleagured neighbors who have been fighting these flood waters for too long. SAS board member Gale Hoff is shown below with a Salvation Army representative.

Sadly, the Celtic Highland Games of the Quad Cities was cancelled this year, due to previous flood damage at Centennial Park.
  • In good news, however, the CHG committee worked with Nancy, their Chicago dance coordinator, to offer a Scottish Dance Competition, at The Quad Cities Music Guild at 1584 34th Ave in Moline on September 21st from 9-3.Though the SAS was not a sponsor of this event, we applaud the effort to keep Scottish dance alive!
  • Members there in spirit included dance competition donations in memory of Chick Thomson and Bill Gillies, as well as support from Minuteman Press.
